These two have played each other before in three international matches. Their first meeting came during the group stages of Euro 2004 as Ronaldo won 1-0 in his home country to reach the next stage and knock Spain out. They next played against each other in the 2010 World Cup Round of sixteen, as this time Casillas' side progressed courtesy of a 1-0 win. They later played each other in a friendly in November 2010 as Portugal beat Spain 4-0 though Ronaldo was only on the field for the first goal. In club football they have been teammates at Real Madrid since 2009 where they have won a La Liga title and a Copa del Rey trophy together.
What Was Expected
Spain are expected to name the same starting eleven that defeated France but Portugal will have to make at least one change as Postiga is unavailable due to the injury he sustained against the Czech Republic. Hugo Almeida came on for him in that game and he is likely to start up top alongside Ronaldo and Nani in this match. As joint top scorer Ronaldo will be the biggest threat to Casillas' goal and Spain will hope they can crowd him out of the game, but that will be a difficult task. Ronaldo has had 30 shots so far at Euro 2012, more than any other player.
